Pulitzer Prize-winning author plans a stop in Barboursville

A Pulitzer Prize-winning author is planning an appearance in Cabell County next month. Barbara Kingsolver earned a Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2023 after penning “Demon Copperhead,” a modern version of Charles Dickens’ “David Copperfield” set in southern Appalachia. The book portrays challenges presented by poverty, foster care and the opioid crisis. Booktenders – located at 621 Central Avenue in Barboursville – will be hosting the author’s only paperback release after selling more copies of the award-winner than any other independent bookstore. The free event will start at noon on Saturday, Sept. 7 when visitors may enjoy music, vendors, readings and food options prior to Kingsolver speaking at 4 p.m.
