A Kanawha County couple who were charged after their children were found allegedly living in deplorable conditions appeared in court Thursday. Justin Burdette and Caitlin Loveless, both of St. Albans pleaded not guilty to child neglect creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury and death. The couple was charged after St. Albans police said they were called to the home by a landlord after not hearing from the couple in months and were worried about their children.
Police found trash, feces, molding food, and drug paraphenalia. Following the incident, a city inspector found multiple violations at the home and ordered electricity be turned off. The co-defendants are set to go to trial beginning Dec. 9.
