Hurricane Helene’s impacts will be felt in West Virginia

Hurricane Helene reached category 4 status just ahead of landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida. The storm is moving across Georgia as a hurricane, and then it’s expected to move into Tennessee and Central Kentucky as it weakens. That will bring heavy rainfall to the Tri-State, with the heaviest in Eastern Kentucky. Flash flooding is possible in Southeast West Virginia and a Flood Watch is in effect, starting south of Logan and south of Beckley. Closer to Charleston and Huntington 25-35 mph gusts with possible gusts to 40 will be possible. Eyewitness News said a few showers may still be around for kickoff of football games, especially north of I-64.
