Kanawha County Commissioners request a burn ban from the state

The Kanawha County Commission said it has requested a burn ban due to the ongoing drought. The commission has sent a letter to the West Virginia Division of Forestry and Gov. Jim Justice’s office requesting a burn ban for Kanawha County. Commissioners said they factored in the ongoing drought – with dry vegetation and dry, brittle leaves – along with minimal rain in the forecast as reason for concern regarding more fires. The county is also asking residents not to burn this week and to take advantage of upcoming cleanups on Sept. 21 in South Charleston (intersection of Fourth Avenue and C Street) and Oct. 5 in Cabin Creek (15127 MacCorkle Avenue) to get rid of trash.
