Kanawha County squirrel hunter arrested on multiple charges

Charges were filed against a Kanawha County squirrel hunter Friday after gunfire placed Sharon Dawes Elementary School according to court records. James Lee Wilson, 50, of Miami, has been charged with negligent shooting, illegal possession of wildlife and hunting without a license. A criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court said West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Police were dispatched to a Cabin Creek location near where Wilson had been hunting squirrel with a 12-gauge shotgun. The school’s maintenance employees reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area and found shotgun shell pellets on the school’s rooftop. Wilson is being held on a $500 bail at South Central Regional Jail.
