Raleigh County’s prosecuting attorney is accused of dismissing charges in a criminal case in exchange for sexual favors, according to a notice of intent to sue that was served Monday. The law firm that filed the suit identified a woman as “Jane Doe” and said she intends to sue Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Hatfield, the Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Raleigh County Commission for claims of “sexual misconduct, emotional distress, violation of civil rights to bodily integrity, sexual harassment and violation of substantive due process.” Hatfield is currently on leave from the position while “investigations” surrounding him are conducted.
