A West Virginia State University student-athlete was fatally shot a day before the Yellow Jackets’ home opener, according to investigators. Jyilek Harrington, a 21-year-old senior linebacker from Charlotte, North Carolina, was killed Wednesday, police said. Charleston police said officers responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Regency Drive about 8:30 p.m. and found Harrington suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said live saving measures proved to be unsuccessful. The shooting remains under investigation as police said no suspect has been identified.
