EHD in deer will not be a major concern for hunters

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has confirmed an outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease, an insect borne virus that can kill white tailed deer. Cases have been confirmed in Monongalia, Marion, and Barbour counties. The DNR said hunters have no need to worry because it is not contagious to humans. A wildlife expert told Eyewitness News that on a local scale, the mortality of deer from EHD will not be high enough for many hunters to notice a difference. The DNR is continuing their testing throughout West Virginia for EHD in deer. They urge anybody who sees sick deer, to contact their office.
