Former Roane County bingo administrator faces embezzlement charges

A Roane County man is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from a community center over the course of several years. Timothy Jones is charged with embezzlement in an investigation into misappropriated funds at the Newton Community Center dating back to at least 2020, according to a criminal complaint filed in Roane County Magistrate Court. Eyewitness News said Jones was charged after allegedly using his personal credit cards to pay for items at various places and then reimbursing himself with funds from the community center while working as a bingo administrator. The investigation found that around $80,000 in community center funds were used for purchases from eBay, hotels, restaurants, Turkish Airlines, Wal-Mart, thrift stores, pharmacies, auto parts stores and more.
