The 9-acre, 110,000 sq. ft. former home of Kanawha Manufacturing is being renovated to become the Charleston Learning, Innovation, Food & Technology Center. Key tenants include Marshall University’s Green Battery Research, a food hub, and a vocational training center, with completion expected in 12-18 months. ACT Now, the Governor’s Office and the state, put in funds and the Charleston Area Alliance secured a $2 million loan to purchase the site itself and the Kanawha County Commission also contributed funds. The project will result in an entirely new facility created by using recycled and repurposed materials from the old plant, Dunlap added.
