Mark Sorsaia to replace Joseph Reeder as judge

Gov. Justice announced two personnel moves this week that affect the governor’s cabinet and West Virginia’s judicial system. Mark Sorsaia will serve the 29th Judicial Circuit Court in Putnam County, filling a seat from Joseph Reeder who has been appointed as a federal magistrate judge in the Southern District of West Virginia, according to a news release from the Governor’s Office. Lawmakers passed a measure in 2023 that will convert the 29th Judicial Circuit to the 7th Judicial Court starting next year. Sorsaia has previously served as Putnam’s prosecuting attorney and maintained leadership positions in the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorney’s Institute and the National District Attorney’s Association. Deputy Secretary Robert Cunningham – who has served as Justice’s national security advisor since 2021- will replace Sorsaia as acting Homeland Security secretary.
