Medical research trial hopes to help in the battle against opioid addiction

During the special session earlier this month a bill passed by the Senate clears the way for two medical research trials to be conducted to help with opioid abuse. Provider Response Organization for Addiction Care and Treatment (PROACT), a part of Marshall Health Network, will be conducting a three year study comparing two different drugs to see which better treats opioid use disorder. Eyewitness News said the study is will involve 103 patients, with half of them being given buprenorphine and the other half methadone to see which treatment is most effective for opioid use disorder. During the trial each patient will be monitored for twenty four weeks. The goal is to find a safe treatment that will help patients fight their addiction while maintaining their sobriety.
