Public comments are welcome about whether to tear down historic structures in Thurmond

A historic town within the New River Gorge National Park and some of its remaining buildings were the topic of a public meeting in Fayette County on Tuesday night. This was the second public comment meeting called by the National Park Service regarding demolition of certain buildings in Thurmond that they say pose a safety risk. Eyewitness News said the options include doing nothing, removing all buildings except the log cabin portion of the Vallandingham House, or removing all but three of the buildings. Under the third option they would keep the Dun Glen Ark, the ice house and the Marilyn Brown House. Public comments are being taken through November 8.
