The West Virginia Department of Transportation shut down the Second Creek Road Bridge over I-77 after a routine inspection found cracks in a concrete support pier. Because of the bridge closure, surrounding fire stations have been called upon to assist the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department with its emergency response. Malden and Route 34 fire departments will help with responses on the other side of the bridge. The Department of Transportation aims to repair the bridge as quickly as possible, but that could still take three weeks.
