Charleston expanding Elk River Trail Project

Charleston City officials announced more than $840,000 has been earmarked for expanding the Elk River Trail Project, bringing a new pedestrian and bicycle path in. The Transportation Alternatives Program has provided $674,501 for the project and the city will pitch in $168,625 for construction of a trail from confluence of the Kanawha and Elk Rivers to the Charleston Coliseum, according to a news release from the city.The news release said the quarter-mile pathway will tie in to the Capital Connector Project, adding concrete, fencing, landscaping, bike racks, trash cans and a viewfinder to the waterfront.
