Marshall University notified tournament officials that the team will opt out of the Independence Bowl matchup against Army. The decision was made after more than 25 players entered the transfer portal following former head coach Charles Huff’s exit to Southern Miss, according to Yahoo News.
The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl announced on social media that Louisiana Tech would face Army in the bowl game. The university said that, while it was a “tough and unimaginable decision for the program,” it consulted with independent medical experts, coaches and players before reaching the decision. The university said in the statement Saturday the decision does not diminish anything from the Sun Belt Championship the team won earlier this month and said it is optimistic about the future under Gibson.
