West VA First Foundation distributes opioid settlement funds

The West Virginia First Foundation, the group making the choices for the allocation of about $1 billion in the state’s opioid settlement funds have announced what organizations were picked to receive the first initial grant funds. While counties, cities and towns have already started receiving their settlement funds to disperse in their own ways, the foundation itself started a grant application process for organizations to access the state allotment. According to the foundation, of the 174 applications they received, they picked 38 projects allocating $10.4 million in total. The Nicholas County Health Department was one of the organizations who received funding. Said Nicholas County Health Officer Dr. Anita Stewart “We’re really excited to see that the First Foundation has funded several primary prevention projects across the state and a variety of things to really see what’s working, what works well, what doesn’t work,”
