Human Remains from 2021 have been identified

Investigators have positively identified human remains found within the Monongahela National Forest back in 2021.Cassie Sheetz, 24, of Upper Tract was reported missing in March 2021 after being seen near Spruce Knob in Pendleton County, according to a news release from the West Virginia State Police. The news release said recent testing matched the DNA of Sheetz to remains found by a hunter near Seneca Creek months after the woman went missing. The disappearance was later outlined in a national report. State Police reported working with the West Virginia Medical Examiner, the Smithsonian Institute, Marshall University and Sheetz’s family to further an active investigation.
