Groundhog day is coming up this weekend. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources said French Creek Freddie will make his annual prediction on Feb. 2, and the public is invited to attend the free event at the West Virginia State Wildlife Center in Upshur County. Event organizers said doors will open at 9 a.m. and Freddie is set to make a prediction at 10 a.m. Guests can take photos and visit other animals housed at the wildlife center. This year marks the state’s 48th annual Groundhog Day celebration. In 2024, Freddie did not see his shadow and called for an early spring.
