West Virginia’s Hope Scholarship program was designed to offer parents and students more educational choices but diverting millions out of public schools has some worrying about maintaining the integrity of the education system. The Hope Scholarship is a savings program giving parents and students their share of the state’s education funding which may be used for a learning experience that works best for them. Parents can spend nearly $5,000 per student in public money and apply that to private, charter, parochial, virtual or home schooling. However, the cost of the program is expected to keep going up. The more students who take advantage of it, the more money is pulled out of the public school system.
