The trial for a man accused of murdering a West Virginia State Trooper has been delayed. Timothy Kennedy appeared in in Mingo County Circuit Court this week and waived his right to have his trial during the current court term that ends in May. This will give Kennedy’s new counsel, Steven Mancini of Beckley, more time to familiarize himself with the case. Mancini requested to move the trial, and the prosecution had no objection. Kennedy pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in connection to the death of WVSP Sergeant Corey Maynard, who was killed in the line of duty in June 2023. The trial date will be August 18.
