One firefighter died and another was injured while responding to a structure fire Monday in McDowell County. Jeffrey Lawson of War suffered a medical issue while responding to a fire along Marshall Highway in Jolo. A news release from the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office said Lawson was pronounced dead at the hospital after CPR efforts were unsuccessful in the ambulance. Firefighter Gary M. Coleman of Jolo suffered from smoke inhalation and collapsed. He was flown to a Charleston area hospital. Investigators said the structure that was on fire was Coleman’s home. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
