The Nicholas County Board of Education announced that the new Cherry River Academic Complex is on track to open for the 2025-2026 school year. Middle and high school students will attend the school that will replace the old Richwood Middle School and Richwood High School, which were destroyed in the floods eight years ago. The students have been attending pod classrooms in Craigsville, which have outlived their lifespan. Also in Nicholas County, Cherry River Elementary School is being renovated, and Summersville Elementary, Glade Creek Elementary, and Summersville Middle School are combining.
