Parents face charges after child is injured in a shooting

Parents of a 3-year-old child who was injured in a shooting in Lewis County last month have been charged. Caleb Heckert and Corinda Heater were charged with child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury, according to a news release from West Virginia State Police. Troopers were called to the 1400 block of Buckhannon Run Road in Lewis County on Feb. 17 for a 3-year-old that had suffered a gunshot wound. Heckert and Heater are accused of leaving a loaded handgun in reach of the child, and troopers found deplorable living conditions inside the home, according to the news release.
Heckert and Heater are each being held on $100,000 bonds.
