$5.3 billion bill passes in WVA legislation

The West Virginia Senate passed the $5.3 billion general revenue Friday night for the 2026 fiscal year ahead of the final day of the legislative session. HB 2026 passed 51-1 and features significant supplemental funding to the Division of Highways, Department of Human Services and more than $30 million to the Personal Income Tax Reserve Fund despite the state’s deficit, according to the bill. Before its passage by the Senate, the bill was passed by the House after several amendments, going back and forth between the two houses since its introduction in February. The budget will now head to Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s desk for approval to become law.
