Major project will address flood prone areas in Huntington

A major infrastructure project is set to begin this week in Huntington to alleviate some of the long-standing flooding issues in areas of Third Avenue and Fifth Avenue. The two, four-lane thoroughfares in Huntington are home to several businesses, but they are also home to nuisance flooding when it rains, especially where they intersect with 24th and 25th streets. Right now, the stormwater and sewage systems are combined, so everything goes into one pipe. Eyewitness News reported the $14 million project will separate the two, add two collection tanks and a force main to pump out into the river. Construction is expected to take about two years to complete.
