One person is in custody following an alleged burglary that led to several police chases in Kanawha County. 40-year old Emerson Torres faces charges, according to Eyewitness News.
St. Albans Police were called to the area of Kincaid Driver and Lakeview Drive just before 1 p.m. Friday after a witness saw three people pull up to a home, climb over a retaining wall and enter the home through a back door. They left from a front door and got into a Mercedes SUV.
St. Albans police saw the SUV traveling north on Pennsylvania Avenue where the driver is accused of swerving as if to try to strike an officer’s cruiser. After losing track of the vehicle, they later found it near Smith Creek Road and that led to a pursuit that spanned the Kanawha Turnpike in South Charleston, Interstate 64 and Interstate 79, sometimes in excess of 120 mph despite raind and wet road conditions.
The SUV eventually crashed one mile north of the Mink Shoals exit on I-79 and Torres was taken into custody. St. Albans police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and could result in more arrests.
