Vaccines will be exempt with new law that allows exepmtions

State education officials have rescinded a memo regarding vaccine exceptions, stating that exemptions would be recognized despite a bill failing to pass in the legislature. The West Virginia Department of Education State Superintendent Michele Blatt rescinded the memo at the request of Gov. Patrick Morrisey after an initial memo cited that lawmakers did not pass legislation permitting exemptions; thus, students would be required to be immunized to attend in the Fall 2025 school year. According to a post from the governor, Blatt is working with the Governor’s Office on compliance with Executive Order 7-25 to recognize vaccine exemptions and the West Virginia Department of Health will continue to grant exemptions.
