West Virginia workers protest federal layoffs in Washington DC

Members of the American Federation of Government Employees from Morgantown went to Washington, DC this week to protest cuts in the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. Members from Morgantown (Local 3430), Pittsburgh (Local 1916), and Cincinnati (3840) met with congressional staff this week about hundreds of layoffs that they say will have a negative impact on coal miners’ health and safety. While in Washington, union officials are holding a public rally today (Thursday, May 22), to raise awareness about the cuts. The protest will take place from noon-1 p.m. in front of the Department of Health and Human Services headquarters.
