The National Suicide Prevention Hotline will no longer provide specialized services to LGBTQ+ youth as of July 17. Since 2022, an option to ‘press 3’ would connect a caller with an LGBTQ+ youth support specialist. The 988 hotline will drop that option. According to the Trevor Project, 40% of LGBTQ+ youth have considered suicide, and one in ten have made a suicide attempt. Advocates encourage LGBTQ+ youth to plug into other resources.
