AEP awaits a decision from the PSC on rate hike request

AEP has requested $224 million rate hike to generate additional revenue. Eyewitness News said with this they’re asking for the PSC to accept their proposal to securitize, which they said is a financing tool that can be looked at like financing a home. It would take the utility’s assets and sell bonds to investors to alleviate the cost pressure on customers. AEP said if the PSC does not approve the proposal, a $24 increase could go to customers instead of an $8 increase. A public hearing was held this week, and AEP encourages customers to reach out if they have any concerns while they await a decision from the Public Service Commission.
