Huntington City Council member encourages residents to fly Pride flag if the city won’t

The city of Huntington said it would only be flying the American, state and city flags at city hall in June, breaking from a tradition of flying the Pride flag during the month. Eyewitness News reported City Councilwoman Ally Layman – the first council member to publicly identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community – is encouraging residents to put up their own Pride flags if they want, to celebrate the month. Huntington has routinely received a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign for its efforts to create an LGTBQ+ inclusive community over the last several years. It was also the first city in West Virginia to achieve the perfect score in 2018.
