Huntington has plans to improve its aging water system

A big upgrade is on the way for Huntington’s aging wastewater treatment system, but there’s still a bit of red tape to clear first.

During Monday’s Huntington City Council meeting, members voted to move forward with hiring Triton Construction out of St. Albans to take on the Huntington Water Quality Board’s expansion project at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Because not many members were present, the council had to push the final vote on funding to a third reading. The price tag for the project is just under $200 million—and a full council vote is required to approve that kind of spending.

No exact completion date has been announced yet.
