Black bear season opens this week in several counties

The early bear firearms season is opening this week in several counties. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources said the season opens this Saturday, Aug. 30 in Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming counties and runs through Sept. 7. The DNR said there is an overpopulation of black bears in those counties. Hunters who want to be part of it have to buy a bear damage stamp along with their hunting license.
