Cross Lanes day care center owner strikes a plea deal

A former day care director in Cross Lanes has pleaded no contest to failing to report child abuse at the facility she once ran.

48-year-old Amy Williams had been set to stand trial, but instead took a plea deal of no contest to a single charge of failing to report abuse. Originally, she faced four of those charges.

The plea means Williams could face up to 90 days in jail, and possibly a fine of up to $3,000 when she’s sentenced.

The case centers on a former employee at the Cross Lanes Child Care and Learning Center, Amber Seiler, who is accused of spitting on a child and hitting two others. Seiler entered what’s known as a Kennedy Plea to one count of assault and battery on a disabled child. She’s set to be sentenced in September.

Williams was the daycare’s director at the time, and legally required to report any suspected abuse.
