DNR to host elk viewing tours beginning in mid-September

Elk viewing tours are happening again this fall in southern West Virginia. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources’ elk management tours give visitors a chance to explore scenic areas of Logan County and learn about the state’s elk restoration program. Tours are available Sept. 13-14 and continue on weekends through Oct. 25. The four-hour guided tours start and end at Chief Logan Lodge beginning at 5:30 a.m. or 4:30 p.m. and they involve walking up to 2-3 miles. While sightings are not guaranteed, visitors are often able to observe these animals in their natural habitat, according to a news release. Each tour is led by park staff and includes a short hike to a viewing area in the Tomblin Wildlife Management are.
