Fayette County deputies make an arrest for copper theft

A Fayette County man is facing serious charges after deputies found a large amount of copper wire in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Lawson Shaffer of Oak Hill was pulled over on August 6th for several alleged traffic violations. But when deputies looked inside the vehicle, they noticed what they called a “significant” amount of copper wire.

Shaffer is facing felony charges for transferring and receiving stolen goods, as well as conspiracy.

Authorities believe the case is tied to a string of copper thefts reported recently along Route 61.
