More than a dozen officers awarded for work apprehending a fugitive

Several law enforcement officers in West Virginia have been recognized for their involvement in apprehending a high-profile fugitive. A Distinguished Group Award for Heroism has been given to 13 members of the Southern District of West Virginia Cops United Felony Fugitive Enforcement Division Task Force, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Office.

Back in June, investigators apprehended 55-year-old Emaunel Sewell, a convicted sex offender accused of murdering Maryland Patrol Agent Davis Geovanni Martinez, in Putnam County. U.S. Marshals identified the suspect’s vehicle traveling along Interstate 64, but Sewell refused to stop and that led to “violent resistance,” according to Eyewitness News, before he was apprehended.
