Officers send the reminder to obey laws around stopped school buses

School starts later this week in Kanawha County, and police are reminding drivers to obey laws around school zones. Never pass a school bus with the stop sign out. It’s a major problem in West Virginia and nationwide. The National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services posted results of a survey where 37 states reported more than 67,000 instances of cars illegally passing stopped school buses in a single day. It happens two hundred times per day in West Virginia, with most of it happening on the left side of the bus. Buses are equipped with cameras and police officers are increasing their presence around schools in order to catch offenders.
