Putnam County veteranarian order to pay after uncontrolled substances are unaccounted for

A Putnam County veterinarian who was unable to account for nearly 10,000 dosage units of various controlled substances has been ordered to pay the maximum civil penalties. Clara Ann Mason of Winfield, has been ordered to pay $956,000 in civil penalties after it was found that she ordered thousands of doses of hydrocodone/acetaminophen and oxycodone, only to lose track of them and fabricate records as a cover-up, according to a news release. It happened between 2021 and 2023. Mason gave up her DEA license on her own accord as the warrant was executed.
