School vaccine court cases to be combined

A Raleigh County judge agreed this week to consolidate a case over religious freedom and West Virginia’s mandatory school vaccination law with a related, but different one in Kanawha County. The judge agreed with the governor that some families who sought a religious exemption to the state’s vaccine law for kids are entitled to it. The West Virginia Board of Education worries about the return of diseases like polio and doesn’t favor the exemptions. A lawyer for the the state board asked for more time to prepare the case, but the judge declined to delay the hearing and approved consolidation of the two cases. A court date will likely happen in late September.
