City officials in Huntington test floodwall gates

The Huntington Stormwater Utility tested one of its floodwall gates on Monday. The exercise took place at the floodwall gate in Guyandotte near Riverside Drive. WCHS TV said there are five floodwall-gate exercises that will take place from August through November. The exercises are part of compliance and are required every three years by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The checks are done to make sure the gates function properly in the event of a high-water situation.
