The Kanawha County Commission is putting $50,000 toward the fight against illegal drugs. They’ll allocate the funds to the Metro Drug Enforcement Agency to use in undercover drug buys and investigations.
The commission says this funding helps officers get dangerous drugs off the streets, including fentanyl and methamphetamine. So far this year, the Metro Drug Unit has seized over 30 pounds of meth and another 30 pounds of fentanyl.
The agency has also disrupted two major drug trafficking rings, both with ties to Atlanta, resulting in 25 to 30 arrests. Investigators say they were dealing in large quantities and operating at a high level.
The county provides this funding annually to support the Metro unit’s ongoing work to help investigators track drug movements, follow the money, and build stronger cases against major dealers.
