Big changes are coming to the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort. The historic building — now more than 100 years old — is getting a major facelift.
It’s the first time the Capitol has seen renovations of this scale since the 1950s. The nearly $300 million project, fully funded by the state, includes major infrastructure upgrades, safety improvements, better accessibility, and enhanced security.
Because of the work, many government operations that usually take place inside the Capitol have been moved. Temporary chambers are already set up for the House and Senate ahead of the General Assembly’s return in January.
The full renovation is expected to take about four years, with the Capitol scheduled to reopen in 2029.
