New grocery store looks to hire former Kroger workers

A new grocery store is moving into the former Kroger building in Gassaway.

The West Virginia-based Elk River Market of Gassaway officially took over the space on September 25, just weeks after Kroger closed its doors on August 22, leaving about 60 employees without jobs and local residents without a nearby grocery option.

The new store expects to hire around 35 local employees, and the owner is encouraging former Kroger workers to attend upcoming hiring events.
