Rutledge Road bridge work is ahead of schedule

Efforts to replace a short span bridge in Kanawha County are underway. Eyewitness News said a bridge along Rutledge Road in Charleston was closed last month after a routine inspection revealed structural issues. Division of Highways officials said steel beam supports showed signs of deterioration along the 18-foot span. This week, crews started installing foundations for new bridge abutments, according to an update from the West Virginia Department of Transportation. School buses and residents are facing lengthy detours while construction is going on, but engineers hope to have the project finished this fall, a little sooner than expected.
