Deputies in Berkeley County said they were forced to shoot and kill a man who was reported missing after he attacked a deputy with a hatchet. Deputies said a caller told them Sunday morning that David Browne was last seen Saturday night at his house in Martinsburg. Deputies said the caller also told them that Browne had not taken his medication for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and had previously been found naked along I-81 in Pennsylvania. Sunday morning they received a call that a naked white man armed with a hatchet attacked a woman in her driveway in Martinsburg, and later broke into the house and destroyed eletronics. WCHS TV said when he attacked a deputy with the hatchet and they were forced to shoot him. The incident is under investigation and the deputies involved have been place on administrative leave.
