Charleston attorney and pioneer Kitty Dooley has died

Katherine “Kitty” Dooley, a longtime Charleston attorney and civil rights advocate, has died. Dooley’s death was announced by Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin on Friday. Dooley practiced law in the Charleston area for more than 30 years, and the YWCA building is named after her. She was awarded the 2012 Martin Luther King, Jr. Living the Dream Award for “Human and Civil Rights” from the State Holiday Commission, as well as named a West Virginia History Hero for her work with the J.R. Clifford Project recognizing the state’s first African-American attorney.
