A Kanawha County jury has found a man accused of killing a woman and then dumping her body in a well guilty of second-degree murder. Prosecutors asked the jury to return a first-degree murder conviction. However, testimony indicated Michael Smith did not pull the trigger of the gun used to kill Cheyenne Johnson in May 2021.Jurors also found Smith guilty of concealment of a dead body, being a prohibited person with a firearm, malicious assault and assault during the commission of a felony. The jury returned a not guilty verdict on the charge of use or presentment of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
