Commission forms to honor the late Woody Williams

Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed an executive order creating the Hershel “Woody” Williams Statue Commission.
The group will lead efforts to place a statue of the World War II Medal of Honor recipient in the National Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol.
Morrisey says the goal is for visitors to learn the face, name, and deeds of the West Virginia hero.
The commission will include leaders from state government, the legislature, and the public.
Williams’ grandson Brent Casey says he hopes the statue captures his grandfather’s infectious smile and humble spirit.
Williams passed away in 2022.
